The injuries to Drew Brees ’ribs and lungs turned out to be more serious than thought, as it emerged on Saturday that 11 ribs were broken in the New Orleans saints’ star, U.S. media reported.
That number equates to an initial diagnosis of five broken ribs for the safety of Brees, who also has collapsed lungs, U.S. sports broadcaster ESPN reported. Additional tests showed that there were eight fractures on the left side of the Brees and three on the right side.
Brees won against the San Francisco 49ers in the middle of last week. The Saints called the rib injury suffered in the second quarter a bag off Kentavius Street that was decided to roughly pass a passerby. Doctors also believe he may have suffered some injuries in the previous game but continued to play.
The Saints officially added Brees to their wounded list on Friday. Three matches were initially expected to be missed, but the latest medical update allowed him to be absent for longer.
40-year-old Brees is the all-time NFL leader in passing yards and filing passes. But the Saints last season 5: 0 without their star signal shouter, recovered from a torn ligament.
At the top of the NFC South Division, the 7-2 Saints host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Taysom Hill will learn that the defender will start his head against Jameis Winston.
